I’m Nathalie. Welcome to Finca Almalibra.

Freedom, nature and a different way of living in Catalonia

At the foot of the Els Ports mountains, near Roquetes and Tortosa in southern Catalonia, lies Finca Almalibra — an off-grid finca surrounded by olive trees, mountains and Mediterranean nature.

Almalibra means Freedom & Balance for your soul.

What started as a personal dream has slowly grown into a place where people can connect with nature, experience off-grid living, meet people from around the world and become part of something that is still growing.

But to understand Almalibra, you probably need to know a little about the person behind it.

Hi, I’m Nathalie

Nature is where I’m happiest.

Give me mountains, hiking shoes and a trail leading somewhere I haven’t been before and I’m usually in.

I love discovering hidden rivers, waterfalls and natural swimming spots, exploring the Els Ports mountains and finding those little corners of Catalonia that make you stop for a moment and think: how did I not know this existed?

I love animals, being outside, meeting people with completely different stories and learning things by actually doing them.

And I have a slight tendency to turn one idea into five new projects.

That’s probably a big part of how Finca Almalibra became what it is today.

I didn’t come here because I had everything figured out.
Quite the opposite.

I wanted more freedom, more nature and a life that felt closer to the things that actually matter to me.
So I chose a piece of land in southern Catalonia and started learning.

Off-grid energy. Water. Olive trees. Growing food. Composting. Natural building. Animals. Soil. Harvesting. Fixing things. Making mistakes. Trying again.

Some things worked beautifully.
Others definitely didn’t.
But somewhere along the way, the finca stopped being just the place where I lived.

It became Almalibra.

One thing has always mattered to me: people should feel comfortable being who they are here.

Finca Almalibra brings together people of different ages, nationalities, backgrounds and ways of life.

Solo travellers, couples, families, LGBTQ+ people, vanlifers, nature lovers and people curious about a more independent or off-grid lifestyle are all welcome.

You don’t need to fit into a particular box.

Respect the people, respect the animals, respect the land — and give each other the freedom to be different.

For me, that is a big part of what Almalibra means.

The finca has changed enormously over the years, but it is still very much a work in progress.

We are improving the soil, growing more food, planting fruit trees, composting, experimenting with biochar and companion planting, creating natural growing spaces and finding better ways to live with the land and the climate around us.

The olive trees are also an important part of life here.

They give us Alma Pura, our extra virgin olive oil, produced from carefully harvested olives and pressed locally in small batches.

What grows and happens here helps Almalibra continue to grow too.

I could have kept the finca entirely private.

But I realised pretty quickly that I enjoy Almalibra much more when there are people around the table.

I love the unexpected conversations that happen when people from completely different countries meet.

I love seeing someone discover a beautiful place in Els Ports for the first time.

I love learning something from somebody who arrived only a few days earlier.

And I love watching people contribute their own little piece to the finca.

That’s why today there are different ways to experience Almalibra — from staying for a while to becoming part of our longer-term co-living community, joining activities or workshops, or simply following what we’re building here.

This page is simply here to tell you why they exist.

There is no finished version of Finca Almalibra.

The long-term dream is to create a more regenerative and self-sufficient place: producing more food, caring for the soil and olive trees, learning and sharing practical skills, welcoming people and eventually being able to use part of what the land produces to support local families who need it.

There is still a long way to go.

And I’m completely okay with that.

Because for me, Almalibra isn’t about reaching some perfect end result.

It’s about creating a life with more freedom, balance, connection and respect for the world around us.

And enjoying the adventure along the way.
